New handrails, posts and caps, or careful restoration of the originals, sized and finished to suit the hall.

Clad or replace worn treads and risers in oak or paint-grade timber, ready for carpet, a runner or bare timber.
Finishing & lighting
Full sanding, priming and spray or hand finishing, with optional discreet LED lighting to treads or handrail.

- Can my staircase actually be remodelled?
- Almost always, yes. If the structure is sound, and the vast majority are, we can change the balustrade, spindles, handrails, newel posts, treads, risers and finish while the staircase stays exactly where it is. The only time we recommend a full replacement is if the flight itself is unsafe, badly out of regulation or you are changing the position of the stairs.
- How much does it cost compared with a new staircase?
- A brand new bespoke staircase is a building project: structural work, a made-to-measure flight, plastering and redecoration around it. A remodel reuses the structure you already have, so your budget goes into the parts you see and touch. Most customers are surprised how much of the look they get for a small share of the cost.
- How much mess will there be?
- Nothing like a replacement. There is no ripping out, no structural opening and no re-plastering. We sheet the hall, landing and stairs, cut outside or under extraction wherever possible, and hoover down at the end of every day.
- How long will you be in my house?
- Most staircase remodels are done in two to five days on site. You get the dates before we start, and you get the same faces each day rather than a rotating crew.
- Will I be able to use the stairs?
- In nearly every case, yes. We work in stages so the flight stays usable overnight. If there is ever a period where it is not safe to use, you will know in advance, not on the day.
- How will you keep me updated?
- One point of contact from the first visit to handover. You get a written quote with a clear scope, dates confirmed before we start, and a message if anything changes. No chasing, no disappearing for a week.
- Will it lose the character of the house?
- Only if you want it to. Remodelling is the best way to keep original newel posts, mouldings and handrails while losing the dated parts. We match new components to the period of the house.
- What if I don't know what I want yet?
- Most people don't at first. We come and look, show you what works in your hall, and talk through options and costs for each. There is no charge and no obligation for that visit.
